Economic evaluation of sunitinib malate in second-line treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma in Finland

چکیده
CRD summary The study examined the cost-effectiveness of sunitinib as second-line therapy, compared with usual care, in cytokinerefractory patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. The authors concluded that sunitinib was a potentially costeffective second-line therapy for metastatic renal cell carcinoma in comparison with usual care from the perspective of the health care payer in Finland. The quality of the study methodology was good, especially with respect to the probabilistic approach of the decision model. However, the authors’ conclusions should be treated with some caution given the lack of clinical studies with direct comparisons between the treatment analysed.

Economic evaluation of sunitinib malate in second-line treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma in Finland.
BACKGROUND Cytokine therapy is currently used as first-line treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). Until recently, treatments with proven efficacy after the failure of first-line cytokine therapy were not available. In recent clinical trials, sunitinib has been associated with good response rates in patients with mRCC. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to analyze the cost-effe...

PURPOSE To assess the cost effectiveness and cost utility of sunitinib malate as a first-line treatment in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) compared with interferon-alfa (IFN-alpha) and interleukin-2 (IL-2) from a US societal perspective. METHODS A Markov model was developed to simulate disease progression and to determine progression-free survival, total life-years (LYs), and quality-a...

BACKGROUND Long-term survival is a problem with locally advanced and metastatic renal cell carcinomas. Sunitinib malate is an oral multitargeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor, but data on sunitinib use as a second line treatment in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) are limited. Prognostic and predictive value of peripheral blood markers has been shown for many cancers. MATERIALS AND METHODS ...

Sunitinib malate (Sutent, SU011248) is an oral multitargeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) used for the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma and imatinib (Gleevec)-resistant gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) with few reported side effects including asthenia, myelosuppression, diarrhea, and mucositis. Scarce literature exists regarding the rare but often serious toxicities of sunit...

BACKGROUND/AIM The tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) sunitinib malate is nowadays a standard first-line treatment option for patients with metastatic clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence and clinical course of thyrotoxicosis in our cohort of patients treated with sunitinib. PATIENTS AND METHODS Medical records of all patients treated with f...
